Who does this quote come from? I had posted a quote that had a similar meaning behind it. Many children enter school thinking that they have to repeat or reflect what is taught to them. However, great teachers will turn that mirror into a window and motivate those students to see that the world is full of endless possibilities. Teachers should help their students explore those options and support the students in their journey toward achieving their goals.
This quote comes from Thomas McKinnon. I love it because children whether we realize it or not children watches and observes us. I constantly tell them if I can do anything so can they. I let my life be an example for them and let them know they can achieve more than what I have achieved. I also reinforce that I will always be there for them no matter what. That all that kids sometime want to hear, that they have someone to support them.
I love this quote. I truly believe that people must watch their behaviors (especially when they are in the public light--athletes, song artists, movie stars and even those not in the "public light", parents, teachers, etc.) because some child somewhere is looking up to them and considers them to be a role model...whether they want to be one or not, sometimes it just comes with the territory. I know parents and educators should encourage children to create their own dreams and goals and stress that they are responsible for their own life's journey, but ultimately children are inspired by the life of someone else for whatever the reason.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and family life with the class. Its so important to have a closeness with family for support and encouragement. It's just me and my daughter but she is such an inspiration to me and keeps cheering me on to finish.
